OLUNLOYO: HOW WIKE HALTED FULANI EXPANSION
By PHC Telegraph
The defeat of Atiku Abubakar of the PDP in the just concluded presidential election has been described by a prominent Yoruba leader as evidence of the concerted effort of progressive minded Nigerians led by Governor Nyesom Wike to halt the hegemony of the Fulani in Nigeria.
Pa Victor Olunloyo, elder statesman and one-time Governor of Oyo State said at the official commissioning of an aviation fuel facility built by Governor Seyi Makinde that he is impressed by the rare and exceptional courage exhibited by Governor Wike.
The former Governor who was honoured by the Oyo State Government at the weekend stated that some of the time it has been difficult for many in the country who follow events on the national stage to understand the unique circumstances which drive the actions of the Rivers Governor.
But Pa Olunloyo noted that Wike who is friend of the Oyo people deserved commendation from well meaning Nigerians for his role in helping to prevent the Fulani from taking Nigeria hostage.
Responding while gormally commissioning the project which will enable aircrafts to refuel at the Ibadan Airport, Governor Wike said those who help to stimulate revolutionary changes in society are not usually direct beneficiaries of such effort
He said he was satisfied that he and his colleagues in the G5 had succeeded in ensuring that the principle of power rotation between the North and South is preserved for the benefit of the Nigerian people.
The governor observed that such a power sharing arrangement between the North and the South does not need to be written.
He said that although he was at the verge of retiring after his tenure, he was happy with the emergence of a Southern president.
Wike said he looked forward to the election of a Northerner after the South completes its turn.
Pa Olunloyo will not be the first high profile Yoruba leader to acknowledge Wike’s courage.
President Olusegun Obasanjo during an international conference which held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital had lauded Wike for his sterling courage, saying such an attribute is legendary.
