Akere Market Disaster: Obi urges compensation for spare part traders

Peter Obi condemns Lagos fire outbreak. 

Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party in the last Presidential Election, has ordered leaders of the Lagos State Government to immediately investigate the root cause of the fire which occurred at the Akere Spare Parts Market.

He has also asked the Lagos State Government to help in compensating the victims of the fire mishap.

Obi who took to Twitter a few hours ago to react to the fire incident said, “This morning, I received the sad news of the fire outbreak at Akere Spare Parts Market in Olodi-Apapa, Ajegunle, Lagos.”

“Hopefully no life was lost”, Obi noted, “but the means of livelihood” as well as “properties, worth millions of naira, lost to the inferno are of great concern to me.”

Obi expressed serious indignation over the outbreak of fire at the said market, insisting that investigations must be seen to be thorough.

“I commiserate deeply with all those affected by this fire disaster”, the Labour presidential candidate who has gone to court to challenge the victory of the Presidential – elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I call on the government and relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the fire outbreak thoroughly, and forestall future occurrence, while finding ways to help the affected victims”, Obi stressed.

So far, nobody has been able to say exactly what could have led to the fire accident.

While some suspect that unknown arsonists could have been at work for political reasons, others say the source of the incident could have been electrical.
