Election Petition: US lawyer
may join Obi’s legal team
By PHC Telegraph

As the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi intensifies his bid to ensure Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not sworn in as Nigeria’s next president, there are hints that a top US lawyer may be flown in to work with local lawyers who are handling his election petition.
Obidients in diaspora in collaboration with those at home who are anxious to realize Obi’s ambition to overturn Tinubu’s electoral victory have been scouting for an American who would take up the case.
They seem to have found one at last, according to information that is filtering in.
According to feelers floated on a whatsapp platform populated by Obidients who reside largely abroad, a hard-nosed US lawyer is willing to come on board.
His, name has not been announced, a source disclosed.
“We have heard that a US lawyer will be flown. This information has been placed on a Whatsapp platform that I was added to.”
Apart from seeking justice for the Igbo-born politician that has so far refused to congratulate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the idea is to give the matter at the tribunal an international dimension and possibly attract global attention.
There are obvious differences, the Telegraph reports, between Nigerian and American law.
All Nigerians who school abroad and want to practice law in the country go through law school.
Is it possible that an American who has not attended Nigerian Law School could put on the wig and gown won by Nigerian Lawyers and appear before a Nigerian court?
Nigerians would expect answers when the time comes.
For now, Obidients are hoping their American lawyer will make the difference when he arrives.
Obi’s quest to upturn INEC’s decision to name Tinubu the president in waiting got a boost last week.
A court of Appeal allowed the defeated candidate the leeway to file papers which seeks to exclude Tinubu from a process that is asking for fresh elections in Nigeria.
