Bala Mohammed; Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and Rivers State governor-elect, Sir Siminalayi Fubara at the inauguration of Rumuigbo internal roads in Rumuigbo on Wednesday

Governor Nyesom Wike has again expressed strong reservations about what he describes as the mismanagement of funds raised by the PDP under the watch of the suspended National Chairman of the PDP,  Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.

Wike who took centre stage while speaking at the commissioning of Rumuigbo internal roads wondered how such an amount of money earned by the party could be squandered under two months

The Rivers Governor declared Wednesday that he believes in the existence of a strong and visionary leadership in the Peoples Democratic Party.

But he argued that such qualitative leadership was not something that could be actualised with Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, the embattled PDP national chairman, still on the saddle.

Wike insisted that under Dr. Ayu, PDP became weak, lacking the kind of leadership that should make it a strong political force to reckon with.

He said the embattled national chairman was rather busy pursuing personal gains instead of protecting the long term interest of the party.

Making the accusation when he spoke at the Civic Centre in Rumuigbo, venue of the inauguration of Internal Roads built in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area on Wednesday, the governor said he would not support Dr Ayu.

He accused Ayu of failing to provide strong leadership because of his desire in using funds acquired from the party purse to build a private university in Benue State.

Ayu, PDP National Chairman, in the eye of a raging storm. Now, he has been suspended.

“I believe that we should have a strong leadership. I can’t support people whose interest is only to amass money.

“I can’t support people where we did congresses and raised about N12.5B and within two months, that money was gone. And somebody has stayed in office for one year, he is building university, I won’t support such.”

“That is why I am in support that that the bloody criminal must leave office if we want PDP to be strengthened”, Wike stressed.

He further stated, “I owe no apology to anybody. I said it before, this is the final fight we will fight and we are going to win this fight.”

Commenting on the internal roads project, Governor Wike said in December 2022 when it was flagged-off, he promised he will complete and inaugurate the internal roads.

Governor Wike explained that he feels satisfied to have performed well in office, saying he has served Rivers people credibly, without also disappointing or embarrassing his kinsmen.

He assured that he would continue to inaugurate projects until the midnight of 28th May 2023 when his tenure would expire.

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike continues to commission projects across the Rivers State.

Governor Wike observed that he is not afraid of any visit from the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) when he leaves office.

This, he said. Is because there is nothing to hide from the anti-graft organisation, stressing that the numerous projects embarked upon by his government are evidences of how resources of the State have been used.

Inaugurating the project, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State patted the governor on the back for achieving the execution of more projects for the benefit of Rivers people.

The Bsuchi State Governor attributed this not entirely to the availability of too much money at the disposal of Governor Nyesom Wike.

But  he said  he was convinced that Wike’s exploit was proof of his commitment to the provision of a  better living condition for Rivers people.

Governor Mohammed equally acknowledged the political sagacity demonstrated by Governor Wike in ensuring that PDP in the State won the governorship, all State Assembly seats and three senatorial seats.

He noted that capped it up with the delivery of votes that contributed to the emergence of his preferred southern president.

Providing the description of the project, Rivers State Commissioner for Works Dr George -Kelly Dakorinima Alabo said the roads are scattered in 17 streets of different sizes.

According to him, they measures 8.5 kilometres in length, and were delivered within 5 months without disruption from the host community.

In his welcome address, Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, George Ariolu noted that the internal roads being inaugurated in Rumuigbo was evidence of the urban renewal programme of the Wike’s administration.

He thanked Governor Wike for being a rare politician who has sustained delivery of projects that have impacted positively on the lives of Rivers people.
