Sim Fubara : We Cannot Afford To Fail
By Elem Kash
“We have no reason to fail”, Governor Siminilayi Fubara declared while speaking on Friday.
Sim as he is popularly known spoke during the official swearing in ceremony of the Secretary to Government, Tammy Danagogo and two others.
The other two who took oaths of office were the new Chief of Staff, Chidi Amadi and Adaeze Oreh, a female doctor who is coming on board as a commissioner for the first time.
Speaking at the event which took place at Government House, Port Harcourt, Fubara remarked, “failure must not be found in our governance lexicon.”
Insiders in the administration say the Governor’s comment was apparently a call to duty and an indication that laxity on the part of appointees would not be tolerated.
Fubara expressed confidence in the calibre of persons that he has so far appointed to serve Rivers people, saying that the delivery of dividends of democracy would remain the cornerstone of his government.
“We are committed to our vision of continuity and consolidation”, the State Governor explained, “So we are poised to gain mileage in our delivering dividends of democracy to our people by appointing these calibre of persons into our government.”
There have been reactions since the appointment of political appointees began in the State.
While some believe that Fubara’s selection is what the State needs right now, others think new wine is being poured in Old wine’s skin.
There are even those who suggest Fubara is not the one making the decisions.
Fubara has however maintained that he ran the last election on a mantra that would ensure some continuity in government and the consolidation of the New Rivers Vision.
Said Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, a former member of the House of Reps and Publisher of the Port Harcourt Telegraph in a chat with this reporter, “Those who think old hands should never have been reappointed forget that Sim worked with these people as a permanent secretary and an accountant general.
“He knows them intimately, knows what they can bring to the table and believes they still have something of value to contribute.
“All we should do is give Sim a chance to prove that he is in charge, that he knows how to navigate the waters, that he is ready to take up the challenge of leadership.”
