Breaking news: Radio Rivers Staff Ask Their General Manager To Leave
● Accuse him of incompetence, lack of vision; Info Commissioner intervenes
By PHC Telegraph
Staff of the Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation Monday morning embarked on a peaceful protest to demand the removal of their General Manager, Mr. Sampson Fiberesima.
The workers who are acting under the aegis of RATTAWU and the NUJ, two major unions in the organisation, are accusing the embattled General Manager of gross incompetence, lack of visionary leadership and managerial skills.
We have learnt that the dissatisfied workers of the station led by the leaders of the two unions in the early hours of this morning gathered at Degema Street in protest to draw government attention to what is going on.
Meanwhile, we have learnt that the Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Joe Johnson met with workers of the broadcasting outfit.
The Commissioner who visited the FM station to take stock of the situation urged the workers to remain calm.
Speaking afterwards to the Port Harcourt Telegraph in Port Harcourt, Johnson disclosed that Government will take a position on the issues raised by staff of Radio Rivers.
He hinted that he would brief Governor Siminalayi Fubara on the workers complaint.
The station which was once a pacesetter in FM broadcasting business is currently off air.
Our sources say efforts made internally by the aggrieved workers to get the General Manager to focus on the problems faced by the Corporation had repeatedly hit a brick wall.
