Rotimi Amaechi goes slow, keeps Tony Okocha, others guessing

The Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State,  Tony Okocha has taken a swipe at his former boss, Rt. Hon.  Rotimi Amaechi, saying if “he is a party member or not, I don’t know.”

Amaechi, a former two-term Governor elected on the platform of the PDP in 2007 was one of the founding fathers of the APC and one of the greatest backers of General Mohammadu Buhari, a two-term president.

Addressing the press in Abuja Tony Okocha who replaced Nyesom Wike as Chief of Staff to Governor Amaechi mocked his former benefactor.

Asked about the status of the former Minister of Transportation, seen as a critical stakeholder in the party, Okocha chose to speak in a rather condescending manner.

He  said the two-time director general of Buhari’s campaign organisation has put a distance between himself  and the APC.

Telegraph fact checks suggest Amaechi has maintained a low profile since Tinubu rode to power and went ahead to secure the services of the immediate past governor of Rivers State.

Insiders say that political deal struck at the highest level between the nation’s President and Nyesom Wike produced Okocha, a proxy who is accusing Amaechi of failing to relate with the party

“At some point he got into law school and from year one we became incommunicado”, Okocha explained.

“You are also aware that at some point, at the Presidential primary election”, the acting chair stated, “he also decided to disappear into thin air. So whether he is (a) party member or not, I wouldn’t know.”

Noting that Amaechi has disappeared “into thin air”, Okocha wondered, if the leadership of the party should “go to his house”.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike and his ‘godson’, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State. Will their interest play out on the street when protesters sweep through the streets?

Apparently suggesting that Amaechi is angry, following what some refer to as the “magu-magu” that has taken place within a state structure that he built, Okocha alleged that the former governor sent a message to the party secretary warning him never to make the mistake of reaching out to him.

Hear Okocha, “But all the meetings we call, like a particular one for former governors, he sent a message to the secretary of the party and warned him that he should never dare to send him message about the party. So should we go to his house and attack him?”

Commenting on the proposed protest, Okocha defended the president, saying protesters should leave the Jagaban alone and order their footsteps in the direction of state governors.

He suggested that protesters in Rivers State should march to the official residence of the state governor.

Is it possible that somebody in the pro-Wike movement might be planning something sinister, using the proposed protest as a covet?

Is it likely that a group of hoodlums may have been procured by opponents of the Rivers State  Government to infiltrate a peaceful procession when the time comes?

Only time will tell.
