Wike Fires Shots At Atiku Abubakar As PDP Prepares To Meet

By PHC Telegraph

Barrister Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory embroiled in several wars within the PDP.  Will he survive?

Signs that the proposed meeting of the PDP scheduled for the 24th of this month would be explosive are gradually coming to the surface.

Governors of the PDP had called for a truce as a gale of suspension orders hit principal party officials who are serving members of the National Working Committee, NWC.

The suspension orders were perhaps, proof of the level of conflicting interests that have led to the polarilization of the party which once dominated the centrestage of Nigerian politics for 16 years.

But the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,  Nyesom Wike, furious over the organic support that the PDP and its leaders are lending Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State lashed out at Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a one-time Vice President of the country.

He said that Atiku had claimed that Rivers people openly rejected him, following the outcome of the recent Local government elections.

But he noted that whereas he and his supporters did not take part, Atiku took part in several elections in which he failed.

“I hear Atiku Abubakar say, ‘Oh they have rejected me in Rivers State. Okay, assuming though not conceding, he had lost so many times, Nigerians have also rejected him”, Wike lashed out in Port Harcourt.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar draws the ire of Wike metely for speaking up on the situation in Rivers State.

“If you say for an election we did not contest; never participated; that shows Nigerians have rejected us, it is okay. You that contested and failed woefully, Nigerians have rejected you, therefore pack and go home.”

Wike may not have taken part in the election with his supporters, but there is sufficient evidence to show that they did everything to abort the exercise.

How will they say there were no scores in an election that they did not participate? That is a question that many who saw an impressive turn out of voters are asking.

The hostility between Atiku and Wike is not new. They have fought all the way since they parted ways.

Elder Bode George has suddenly woken up on the wrong side Wike’s bed. He dared to suggest Fubara should be allowed to head the PDP in Rivers State.

He got a knock on the head for his effort at peace building and refused to join issues with Wike on Arise Television’s Morning Show

These flashes between Wike and heavyweights in the party may be part of what to expect as he prepares to take on the entire PDP establishment after allegedly joining forces with opponents of the PDP in Edo to subdue a candidate whose defeat has become a matter of controversy.

October 24 is fast approaching. Members of the NWC are similarly preparing to present an agenda at the meeting. What seemingly exists in the PDP appears to be like the silence of the graveyard.

Our sources are hinting at this time that various camps within the party are honing their skills ahead of the battle to come.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara.. they are running around like protesters on the street.

Fubara who described Wike and his supporters as a band of disgruntled persons roaming the streets at a stakeholders meeting prior to the local government election has not responded to Wike’s comments at the luncheon.

But a top PDP member told this publication, “Wike would have hoped Fubara will leave the PDP, the only problem is Fubara is not willing to leave. He is staying on and really giving Wike a hard fight.

“The suspension of Illiya Damagum and Sam Anyanwu, acting National Chairman and National Secretary respectively, is being seen as a product of the fighting between pro-Wike forces and defenders of core values and traditions of the PDP who think a great injustice is being done to Fubara and others within the party.

“Fubara is no longer that young man that Wike thought he would easily rubbish at will” an analyst who spoke under anonymous conditions said, “He is proving it and stabilizing his administration.”

Beyond the Rivers crisis,  there are problems in at least 11 states and core PDP members think it is time to deal with these problems in order to reposition the party.

Apparently, the PDP is between the devil and the deep blue sea. Going forward as difficult as going backwards.

Never in its history has it been confronted with too many distractions,  problems that seem intractable or blessed with members of an executive committee that appears clueless.

Our findings indicate that Wike and his friends within the PDP are likely to do everything in the books to stall the meeting billed for the 24th of this month.

The PDP Governor’s Forum and other party heavyweights would require tact, patience and wisdom to go past the booby traps that are being laid.

It is difficult to say at what point Wike would lay off or at what point he would wear the garb of a loyal party man.

He is fighting on several fronts all at once like a superpower and observers posit that his defeat, especially on the homefront where Fubara and the Rivers people are waiting, might spell doom for his political career.

Wike may have to learn how not to push his luck too far, at least to avoid falling off the political cliff, an insider in the PDP told this medium.

“Even those who now respect him in the APC would unload him like rotten tomatoes. He has the option to join the APC and cut his losses before it is too late.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike and his ‘godson’, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.

“It has taken him one year, yet he hasn’t crushed Fubara. It is doubtful he ever will. Nigerians are watching. Their sympathy is not seriously with Wike. Many are aligning with Fubara. Only APC sympathisers are hailing him.

“Rivers people are not the only ones asking Wike to remove the hand of the monkey that he has placed in the soup.”

“Many Nigerians are speaking up as the many wars being fought by Wike gathers strong opposition across the country.

“Will he remember the Yoruba saying which cautions a stone thrower about what may likely happen if the stone he casts lands on the head of a relative in the marketplace?

“From all indications, the PDP will meet. There may be a clash of ideas and interests. Many want to be on the road to the mini convention: and the road to a new era.

“It may not be a season to sustain Damagum as Acting chairman for too long”, an informed source concluded.
