As part of efforts to rekick-start tourism activities, the Rivers State Government has embarked on the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach.

Already, the swampy areas of the beach have been effectively sandfilled while an investor is to be engaged to manage the facility.

Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara who made the disclosure in Port Harcourt while on an inspection visit said that his administration is taking appropriate steps to reactivate the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach.

He revealed that the aim is to ensure that the beach becomes a centre once again for the promotion of arts, culture and tourism.

Under the present government, he pledged,  the tourism potentials of the Rivers State would be exploited in order to turn it into a destination for tourists and others who seek fun and relaxation in a serene and peaceful environment.

“So, part of our programme for the Rivers people”, the Governor explained,  is “to bring back Rivers State to what it used to be before” and “make sure that we revive the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach.”

Also explaining the purpose of his visit, Fubara said, “As a matter of fact, what I came to do this afternoon is to inspect the second part of the land, which we just acquired recently to expand this space.

“And we also have an investor who is willing and has the capacity to re-establish this place to a modern tourist centre.

“I am really happy that our people are already excited that the once forgotten Port Harcourt Tourist Beach will come back to life.”

The Governor urged residents,  particularly youths in the area, to cooperate with the  contractors working on the project and the investor who would soon embark on the restructuring of the entire Beach.

The Governor was accompanied by the Commissioner, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Hon. Israel Ngbuelo as well as the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ishmael Tomonialadieokuma, and the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Lands, Mr Alozie Nwala.
