Omehia Mocks Wike, Says Show Us What You Have Brought To Rivers State

By PHC Telegraph

Former Governor of Rivers State. Celestine Omehia has asked the Minister of  Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike to show Rivers people what he has attracted to the State.

Omehia  who on Wednesda flagged off the reconstruction of the Egwi-Afara-Mba Road in the Etche Local Government Area awarded by the Fubara administration challenged Wike to showcase what he has attracted to the State since he went to Abuja.

“There is a question we ask in this State”, Omehia said while speaking on the significance of the road project Governor Fubara embarked on.

When Rotimi  Amaechi was a Minister in Abuja, Omehia remarked, he was asked to provide evidence of  what he has brought home.

Stressing that an answer to the question is relevant now, Omehia asked if the Minister of the FCT, a foremost critic of the then Minister of Transportation has succeeded in anyway to influence the citing of any federal project in the State.

The former Governor referred to Etche as the food basket of the State and commended Fubara for embarking on the Egwi-Afara-Mba Road.

He said that apart from creating increased access to three Etche clans, the road would facilitate the evacuation of agricultural produce from the area.

Developing The Food Basket:

Governor Fubara who invited Omehia to perform the flag-off ceremony said that he is grateful to the Etche people for the massive support they gave him in 2023 and the organic  support they are giving to him right now.

He expressed optimism that the road would contribute to meaningful economic and agricultural activity and provide access to nearby communities.

Fubara acceded to a request by the Chiefs and people led by the Onyeishi Etche to extend the road to the Imo boundary.

The Governor said it is not sufficient  for a government to build infrastructure alone. He said his administration would develop the human capital capacity of the Etche nation and motivate the agricultural sector.

He said the Etche nation has all that it takes to feed the  State and vowed that he will take Etche to great heights under his watch as governor

The Governor urged the Rivers people to come together in the interest of State,  saying that although there have been some distraction, the administration has focused intently on delivering good governance.

Yesterday’s visit to Etche was Fubara’s third within a space of two weeks, a situation some say depicts the closeness between the Governor and the Etche people

Etches Propose Eight Year Tenure For Fubara;

At Nihi, the Etche people bestowed a prestigious chieftaincy title, ‘Dike Oha” on Governor Fubara .

Wednesday, the Chiefs and people of Etche pledged during a kola giving ceremony to back Fubara’s second tenure in 2027.

They said they were satisied with his rare leadership  quality and his compassionate nature which has led to peace and progress in the State.

They asked for the extention of the Egwi-Afara-Mba Road,  a 12 kilometre project to the boundary between Rivers and Imo States.

They acknowledged that there were vacancies arising from the death of occupants of government recognised chieftaincy stools.
