• Say the President of the Senate must go;
• Akpoti-Uduaghan tables formal petition accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment
In what looks like a twist of fate, campaigners Wednesday morning blocked access to the National Assembly complex, urging Senators on their way to work to kick the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, out of office.
Protesters who arrived the National Assembly grounds early carried several placards. Some of them read “Akpabio Must Go”
Controversy had trailed the President of the Senate shortly after the fair-skinned Senator representing Kogi Central, Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan accused him of trying to compel her to have sex.
Akpabio who presided when the Senate resumed sitting swore he has never in his life harassed any woman sexually.
He insisted that as all son of a single mother he was brought up to respect women. He said he had won an award as the best gender friendly governor.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, coming under Order 40 of the Senate standing rules formally moved to table a petition accusing Sen. Akpabio of sexual harassment:
The Senate President allowed the Senator to lay the petition before the upper chamber and immediately asked the appropriate committee to investigate the matter and present its findings.
