Ibas Disowns Staggering Employment Claims

• His office says reports on social media relating to the employment of 10,000 new workers are not true

Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retired), Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
Claims that the Rivers State Government under Sole Administrator, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas is planning to admit about 10,000 new workers into the State Civil Service have been described as false.
Dr.(Mrs.) Inyingi S. I. Brown, Ag. Head of the Rivers State Civil Service said in a statement in Port Harcourt that the reports making the rounds on social media and other platforms are fake.
According to the statement, the Ibas administration has become aware of “a purported Special Government Announcement spreading round on social media and other platforms stating that His Excellency, the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, has approved the recruitment of 10,000 qualified graduates and non graduates into the Rivers State civil service.”
The statement also said that the government has learnt through such reports that “the recruitment portal shall be opened for application midnight of Sunday 13/04/2025.”
It discarded claims that the purported statement was signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika.
“We wish to categorically inform the people of Rivers State and the general public that this is false and ask that this fake announcement be ignored”, the statement noted.
Whereas the statement may have distanced the government from a plan to employ 10,000 new hands, it however did not say government will not embark on a fresh employment exercise.
As the statement put it, “Appropriate information will be released by the Rivers State Civil Service Commission in due time.”
The Civil Service Commission cited in the statement is largely responsible for staff recruitment matters.
