PDP: Time To Turn The Table – Baraje
By PHC Telegraph
Abubakar Baraje, a major stakeholder and former National Secretary of the PDP has urged Nigerians disgruntled by the instability that exists within its ranks and file to give the party a chance to put its house in order.
Speaking as a guest on Tuesday’s edition of the Morning Show on AriseTV, Baraje renowned in political circles for his role as an astute party administrator said the PDP is currently dealing with teething problems that have bedeviled its ability to speak with one voice.
Baraje who asked for the understanding of the Nigerian people, particularly the mass media, remarked it is too early to write off the PDP.
In response to a question, the Kwara-born politician noted that it is normal in political settings to have fifth columnists and black legs.
He argued that the existence of such elements provide political parties with the ingredients that they need to rebuild in times of crisis.
Baraje said it was not part of the DNA of the PDP to punish people within its midst who undermine party cohesion, unity and progress, acknowledging that the PDP has over the years overcome such attempts to derail it.
He added that dreams of a one-party state that some people are planning to hoist on the country will never succeed, saying that Nigeria would remain a multi-party democracy despite alleged moves being made by the APC.
President Bola Tinubu had recently declined support for the emergence of a one-party state, saying that will not happen under his watch.
Meanwhile, Vice President Atiku Abubakar has hailed recent moves that are being made to set the stage right in the PDP.
In a tweet he sent out on X after a meeting held to address issues, Atiku said, “It was a fruitful meeting of concerned leaders of the PDP.”
It was the 100th meeting of the party. Many party wigs have been reacting, with some saying the last may not have been heard of the PDP.
