There are growing signs that the 2026 budget forwarded to the Rivers State House of Assembly by Governor Siminalayi Fubara may be passed any moment from now. Sources close to the Assembly hinted this publications said lawmakers have taken time to study the N1.8 trillion budget.
“They had to put the budget through intense scrutiny to ensure that it meets the aspirations of the people and promotes growth”, an aide to one of the lawmakers revealed.
Many observers had expected that the appropriation bill which had undergone its first reading on the day the State Governor delivered have started raising eyebrows about what they see as the delay of the Fubara budget.
“What the public shouldn’t expect is a “carry-go-budget. The lawmaking process is changing and our experience shows that Lawmakers want to ensure that every kobo of taxpayer’s money spent by the Executive would facilitate the development process and ensure good governance “, an insider hinted the Telegraph.
Speaker Martins Amaewhule who is planning to climb upstairs to the House of Representatives after leading the Assembly through its most turbulent period in history had earlier assured Rivers people that the budget would be passed.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a Barrister at Law, recently expressed confidence the budget placed before lawmakers would pass through the mill.
