● President Bola Tinubu gives the directive to the nation’s number two citizen to head to New York

President Bola Tinubu who is currently out of the country on vacation has asked Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him and the nation at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA.
Accordingly, Shettima would lead Nigeria’s delegation to the United States for the Session which opens soon.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha who disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday said that Shettima would be in charge of proceedings in New York.
This the third time that the Vice President would attend the UN session on the orders of the President. Here is a breakdown:
2024 (79th UNGA): Shettima led the delegation and delivered Nigeria’s national statement.
2025 (80th UNGA): He led the delegation and delivered the national statement.
2026 (81st UNGA): He is also assigned to lead the delegation for the third consecutive year.
