West African nations hand over leadership to Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.
He takes over from the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalò who recently paid a brief visit to Nigeria.
The Nigerian leader was elected at the just concluded 63rd extraordinary session of the body which took place in Guinea-Bissau.
Speaking, President Tinubu said under his watch, the ECOWAS community would offer constructive leadership and prevent the occurrence of coups in West Africa.
Also speaking, the outgoing Chairman of ECOWAS, President Embalò commended the Nigerian and Senegalese leaders for emerging successfully through the ballot box.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Tinubu met with Nigerian soldiers stationed in that country.
He said the Nigerian government is proud of their contributions toward maintaining peace in the sub region and assured them that his administration will not turn its back on them.
Tinubu’s emergence as the new chairman of ECOWAS is coming one month after he took the oath of office.
Observers say his assencion to the position of ECOWAS chairman is a remarkable sign of the growing recognition that is being accorded Nigeria across the entire world, particularly in the African world.
Most Nigerians are waiting to see what Tinubunomics would bring to the table as Nigeria pursues its interest as an emerging powerhouse within the sub region.
President Muhammadu Buhari, it is on record, also served as one of the immediate past leaders of ECOWAS.
Recall that Nigeria was instrumental to the formation of the Economic Community of West African States several years ago.
Nigeria with more than 200 million people is the most populous black country in the world.
