After Days Of Standoff At Kuje Prison, Malami Buckles Under DSS Pressure

By PHC Telegraph
The siege laid by the DSS at the Kuje Prison in the Federal capital to prevent Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice under the Buhari administration from manipulating bail conditions which granted him freedom has eventually come to an end.
The former Minister had wanted the release of his son, Abdullaziz through an approach that the intelligence community considered irregular.

The DSS had maintained a blockade around the prison after Abubakar Malami who was held there following an EFCC was granted bail.

The blockade by the security agency, the SaharaReporters disclosed, prevented the lawyer from walking into the open arms of his family and friends when he should have.

The publication reports that Malami who has held out since the siege was laid, finally surrendered to operatives of Nigeria’s Department of State Services on Monday.

SaharaReporters previously disclosed that the DSS had maintained a blockade around the prison. The publication further noted that although legally entitled to freedom, Malami has remained confined in Kuje Prison, turning what should be a routine administrative process into a high-profile standoff.

The situation reportedly escalated last Friday when Malami’s son was arrested while allegedly attempting to leave the prison premises.

The arrest was perceived in some quarters as a move designed  to tighten state control rather than easing it.

Malami finally surrendered to the DSS one week after his bail was stalled, and just hours after Omoyele Sowore, an activist and politician announced plans to intervene  and help Malami secure his release from Kuje Prison.
