DEVELOPING STORY: Tinubu Sacks Finance Minister Wale Edun in Sudden Cabinet Shake-Up

By PHC Telegraph

Nigeria’s economic leadership was jolted on Tuesday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu removed Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy in what officials describe as a strategic cabinet reshuffle.

The presidency has moved swiftly to name Taiwo Oyedele as his replacement, signaling what insiders suggest could be a shift in economic direction at a critical moment for Africa’s largest economy.

While no formal allegations or misconduct have been linked to Edun’s removal, the decision comes amid mounting economic pressure tied to the administration’s reform programme,  including subsidy removal, currency liberalisation, and ongoing fiscal restructuring.

Government sources say the shake-up is aimed at “enhancing coordination and accelerating delivery,” but the timing has raised questions about internal assessments of policy outcomes.

Edun, a key architect of the administration’s early economic reforms, exits at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with: persistently high inflation,
currency instability and rising cost of living pressures.

Analysts say the move suggests the presidency may be seeking faster or more visible results from its economic team, particularly as public discontent simmers.

More details are expected from the State House as this story continues to develop.
