Discussions on how to develop effective strategies required by the National Democratic Congress, NDC to snatch Rivers State from the All Progressives Congress,APC, and the Rainbow Coalition have taken place in Abuja.
Details of the conversation which held behind closed doors are not yet available to the press at this time.
What is however known is that the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi hosted the meeting which attracted his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso and the Rivers gubernatorial candidate, Dumo Lulu-Briggs.
Insiders say the strategic meeting took place at the headquarters of the Obidient movement in Abuja, the federal capital.
Discussions reportedly centred around the NDC’s resolve to pennetrate different segments of Rivers State and adopt strategies that would deepen the party’s reach.
Kwankwaso who was in Port Harcourt to meet with northern leaders and other critical stakeholders in Rivers State. He later took to his official X handle to say the plan is to “expand and deepen the party’s reach, taking our message of national redemption to rural communities and the deep grassroots.
“Our dynamic partnership with His Excellency Peter Obi is rooted in a shared commitment to lifting vulnerable Nigerians out of poverty, reducing the number of out-of-school children, supporting small and medium-sized businesses, securing our nation, uniting our people, and moving Nigeria from consumption to production.”
The foray launched by the NDC is coming against the backdrop of efforts by the Rainbow Coalition to strengthen its control of the oil-rich state.
Positive reactions are in the meantime trailing the nomination of Major Jack, a lawmaker, House Leader and politician from Akuku Toru Local Government Area as the running mate of Kingsley Chinda within the ranks of the Wike-led Coalition and on social media.
Jack hails from the same local government area where the NDC has picked its gubernatorial front runner, meaning that Akuku Toru is most likely to be a major battleground.
