OBI LAMENTS BENUE BLOCKADE, TAKES STORY TO X

• Says youths stopped him from visiting Yelwata victims
• “I came to mourn, not for partisan politics”

Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has taken to X to narrate how his planned visit to grieving families in Yelwata, Benue State, was abruptly stopped.

Obi said he arrived in Benue at about 9 a.m. on Tuesday on what he described as a purely humanitarian mission to sympathise with families affected by the Yelwata killings.

But according to him, his convoy was confronted by youths chanting, “Peter Obi, go back,” forcing him to abandon the journey to the community.

Obi described the development as deeply distressing, insisting that his mission had nothing to do with partisan politics.

“I came to Benue not for partisan politics, but to mourn with our people,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor said Nigerians should be able to sleep, travel and cultivate their farms without fear, arguing that protection of human life must remain the primary responsibility of government.

Police in Benue subsequently confirmed that they were aware of Obi’s movement and had provided security for the trip, but said the reason his convoy was blocked remained unknown and was being investigated.

The Benue State Government has denied involvement in the blockade and rejected suggestions that the youths acted on its behalf.

Obi said although he could not reach Yelwata, his thoughts remained with the victims and their families.
