Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has called for ideas and recommendations emerging from the 2026 Amandla Parapọ̀ to translate into practical contributions to policymaking at national and regional levels.

Reflecting on his participation in the three-day gathering, Fayemi said the discussions offered valuable perspectives on Africa’s place in a changing international order and the leadership choices required to protect the continent’s interests.

The event, convened by the Amandla Institute for Policy and Leadership Advancement, brought together political leaders, policymakers, scholars, business executives and young Africans under the theme, “Policy and Leadership at a Time of Changing Global Geopolitics.”

“I was pleased to participate in these important conversations and encouraged by the depth of perspectives shared,” Fayemi said.

“The task ahead is to ensure that the ideas and recommendations emerging from the gathering contribute meaningfully to policy and decision-making at national and regional levels.”

His remarks highlighted intergenerational dialogue and private sector engagement as important elements of efforts to advance Africa’s interests.

The gathering, held in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, also featured calls for stronger continental cooperation, accountable leadership and greater investment in African research and policy institutions.

In her opening address, the institute’s co-founder and governing board chairperson, Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, urged African countries to turn their natural resources, trade corridors and youthful populations into greater economic and political influence.

The institute’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Adebayo Olukoshi, stressed the importance of collective action in defending Africa’s interests amid shifting global power relations.

Fayemi’s intervention places attention on the next stage: carrying the discussions beyond the conference venue into the institutions responsible for policy and implementation.
