Two illustrious sons of the Rivers State have received major awards for their contributions towards national development.
They are the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi and the Director General of NIMASA, Dr Dakuku Peterside.
The honour was bestowed on them at an awards ceremony organised by the management of ThisDay newspapers.
ThisDay said in its citation Tuesday that the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi was honoured for his outstanding performance in office.
The publication said that as a result of Amaechi’s focus, determination and commitment to work, its management decided to confer a distinguished award on him as the Minister of the Decade.
It also revealed that Dr Dakuku Peterside was honoured for his exceptional role in the advancement of the maritime sector.
The Newspaper is quoted as saying that Nigeria has transformed to the second country in Africa with the largest traffic under his watch as the Director General of NIMASA.
The occasion attracted dignitaries, including the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole who took part in presenting the award of honour to the Minister of Transportation.
