Officials of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, have arrived at the start of an inquiry that may unravel the source of many deaths which is occurring on Bonny Island.
The people had earlier raised an alarm over mystery deaths, urging the NCDC to come to their rescue.
Sunday morning, NCDC officials were spotted on arrival by eyewitnesses.
It is not known if the Coronavirus has spread to the area, but at least 11 persons have died since the mysterious ailment crept in.
There are reports that there was an explosion about two weeks ago at the NLG site which released a column of black smoke into the air.
Local people claim that chemical wastes apparently stored by the company may have escaped into the atmosphere.
They claim that many who are dyng from the mysterious death have lost their sense of taste and smell.
They also say that most of those who are dead are said to have died as a result of strands of malaria and typhoid which are refusing to respond to treatment. Details loading…
