Gunboat challenges pirates on Bonny waters

A group of sea pirates who struck on Bonny waters at the weekend are on the run after they came under superior fire from a gunboat operating in the area.

Also on the run, is the owner of the vessel with which the unknown raiders committed the theft.

The Telegraph on Sunday learnt that sea pirates operating in the Bonny axis had raided defenseless travellers and robbed them of their belongings.

Luck however ran out on them when one of the new gunboats acquired by security agencies appeared on the scene and pursued the robbers.

Eyewitnesses told this publication that the robbers abandoned their loot in the boat they used for the operation and fled.

The whereabouts of the thieves who disappeared into the surrounding mangrove forests is not yet known.

Investigations show that the boat that the raiders used belongs to someone from Bonny.

Our sources say the boat owner who is from one of indigent families in Bonny is at large at the moment.

Many on the island are shocked by the revelation that the boat used to steal and harass Bonny people belongs to a Bonny man.

Governor Nyesom Wike last week donated 14 gunboats to security agencies as part of his government’s contribution to the fight against crime.
