Road to the Presidency: Tinubu scales PDP’s hurdle

By PHC Telegraph

A snare carefully  laid out on the path for Senator Bola Tinubu,  presidential flagbearer of the  APC  who is reportedly gathering momentum in the field, has failed to achieve the desired end.

Reason? Tinubu has escaped a trap set from the outset to kick him out of the race and deny the APC of a candidate.

Friday, the candidate of the ruling party dragged to court by the PDP, which is determined to esterminate him politically a has survived.

With a few days left to the presidential elections, a court ruled that the PDP lacked the ‘locus standi’ to challenge the emergence of Tinubu and his vice as candidates of the APC.

In striking out the matter, the court held that Tinubu and his vice, Kasim Shettima did not in any way infringe upon the provisions of the Electoral Act as amended.

It was perhaps, the last bid by the PDP to remove a formidable foe from the race, using the instrumentality of legal provisions that exist in the statute book.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ready to rumble

Between Peter Obi of the Labour Party ,LP,  and Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC,  observers posit that Tinubu is considered a major threat to the ambition of Atiku Abubakar of the PDP to realize his presidential ambition.

Tinubu in comparison to Obi has structures everywhere. He has governors across board and other high breed politicians who at this time are drawn to him.

An insider in the Presidential Campaign Council of the PDP told the Port Harcourt Telegraph,  “Peter Obi is not the one we are worried about. It is the old fox, Tinubu.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar Struggling for space this time around

“You cannot go to sleep if you are fighting Tinubu. Many lethal players in the political space are working openly and secretly for the APC. Candidate. They include some of own people who are even outside the G5. As you know politics is about interest.”

Aware that Tinubu might be the one to beat, the PDP has been working round the clock to nail the Lagos strongman.

Lawyers on the side of the Jad reckoned they had a fair chance in hitting the bull’s eye. It is becoming more of a mirage.

Accounts that the APC candidate is badly impaired by sickness has not swayed public opinion significant and efforts to separate the Presidency from the Tinubu campaign, especially in the northern parts has failed woefully.

Acts of intimidation targeted at the G5 Governors who have become a huge threat to the victory of the PDP have not tipped the balance in favour of the presidential candidate.

Governor Nyesom Wike, leader of the G5.

Rabiu Kwankwaso hasn’t shifted grounds either. He is pushing as the days go by. The fight waged by the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, seems to suggest that itvis determined to get a sizeable slice of votes from Northern Nigeria.

Political analysts say these tendencies are beginning to turn the tide against the PDP and its presidential candidate, given the fact that  practical steps have not been taken to heal a bleeding sour within the party.

Inside the APC which is gradually sensing that it can upstage both the PDP and LP in the forthcoming elections, there has been wide jubilation, following the failure of the PDP to end Tinubu’s run in the field through the court.

“We have just scaled a major hurdle”, an APC member who spoke anonymous conditions said.

“We know that the PDP is not giving up. We intend to match them grit for grit, brain for brain, brawl for brawl.

“In all, our message of great hope especially for the youth of Nigeria, is gradually finding its mark”, the APC source added
