President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the use of old naira as legal tender by 60 days. He has also ordered the Central Bank to reintroduce the old N200 note which had gone out of circulation.
President Buhari gave the directive moments ago during a nationwide radio and television broadcast.
The 60-day time frame provided by the President is coming against the backdrop of an order by the Supreme Court, saying old notes remain legal tender.
Addressing the nation, the Commander-in-Chief reiterated the resolve of his administration to fight corruption and the excessive use of funds in politics through the currency swap policy.
He ordered the anti-graft agencies to work with the CBN to track down all those who may be frustrating the implementation of the new policy that Nigerians are rejecting on the streets.
Buhari urged Nigerians to turn out enmasse to choose candidates of their choice in the general elections.
