Wike throws out Environment Commissioner

The Rivers State Commissioner for Environment has been booted out of office.

According to news making the rounds, Governor Nyesom Wike relieved him of his appointment in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

He would be the first Commissioner to be sacked after Wike won his re-election.

But his removal from office may have generated shockwaves within the administration.

Insiders reveal that the termination of the Commissioner’s appointment is already putting several members of the State Executive Council on edge.

Nobody knows where the next axe would drop.

Serving commissioners in the State are known to operate in the background. They have no voice and no say even in media circles.

Work, nonetheless, goes on. Lobbyists are getting ready to go to work, if for nothing else, to engage in a scramble for space to fill the vacancy that has been created.

It is apparent that although power is delegated within the Wike administration, the governor appears to many here to be the lone voice that is heard within the administration, with the Commissioner for Information heard sparingly.
