President Muhammadu Buhari says the Federal Government has high expectations that the newly appointed Inspector General of Police would be able to perform while in office.
The C-in-C who spoke to newsmen on arrival from the United Kingdom where he had gone for a routine medical check disclosed that the new IGP, Alkali Baba was selected based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Police Affairs.
Defending the decision of his government, President Buhari hinted that the IGP was picked from a list of high ranking Police officers whose names were forwarded by the Minister of Police Affairs.
According to him, the new police chief who obviously inherits the onerous task of ensuring the reformation of the force has years of requisite exposure, experience and training under his belt.
The President was out of the country on health grounds for 16 days.
Meanwhile, the IGP Monitoring Teams in Port Harcourt and Lagos have been disbanded by the office of the Inspector General of Police.
Mr. Alkali Baba, the Inspector General gave the order in Abuja at a briefing attended by top officers of the force.
No reason has been given publicly for the decision to disband the teams in Rivers and Lagos States.
But security experts reckon that the action may not be unconnected with complaints that have been trailing their style of operation in those states.
