The All Progressives Congress, APC, has expressed disgust over comments made by Governor Nyesom Wike in Etche while campaigning for the PDP.
The party which expressed regret over the conduct of the Governor stated that, the remarks credited to the Governor have portrayed him as a vindictive and uncaring man who is not fit to serve as the number one citizen of Rivers State.
Governor Wike was seen in a video that has gone viral lamenting that the people of the area did not deliver more than 10,000 votes in an election that voter turn out was obviously low as a result of the manipulation of the electoral process.
Wike who did not hide his displeasure even threatened to turn his back on the people, saying in course of the campaign rally that his administration would not go ahead with the construction of a vital access road between Ulakwo and Akwa.
The APC however said through its Spokesman, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke that it was shocked that the governor is still quarelling over votes cast in the last general election.
“This Governor stood in front of the Etche people and told them he will not develop a road that he promised because he did not obtain sufficient votes.
“We believe that as a State and as a people, we ought to leave everything pertaining to the 2019 general elections in the past and march forward.
“Wike is not only a governor of those who voted him to power. He is a Governor of all Rivers people.
“We are shocked that Governor Nyesom Wike could flagrantly display strong hatred, disdain and disrespect for the people of Etche on their own soil.
“Given how the Governor reacted in Etche, an oil bearing ethnic nation which is a major food basket, we can now fully understand why the same Governor chose at a moment of great indiscretion to say “ntoor” to Rivers people in the public place.
“The Governor’s demeanor and the utterances that he made while in Etche have proved that he is outrightly uncaring, vindictive, divisive, unreliable and sectional.
“He has demonstrated unequivocally that this Governor who lays claims to being a Democrat can not be trusted to unite the Rivers people.”
Somehow, Wike’s outburst has not been without a corresponding backlash in the social media.
Many, especially Etche youths, took to the social media to attack the governor for comments which they believe were largely unwarranted.
Some of them described the governor as being insensitive to the plight of the people while others called him unprintable names.
In the meantime, there has been a ban on movements as a result of the local government elections, with government urging security operatives to look out for trouble makers.
Not many political parties are taking part in Saturday’s elections which is expected to gulp approximately two billion naira to organize, according to statistics earlier released by the State Government after the State House of Assembly gave the nod.
