Senator Smart Adeyemi, one time National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, broke down Tuesday on the floor of the Senate.

Adeyemi elected to the red chamber on the ticket of the APC was contributing to a debate on the nation’s depreciating security situation.

The Senator, representing Kogi West Senatorial District,  who took the floor to express his displeasure said he could no longer defend the foot – dragging antic of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Adeyemi said Nigeria was in deep trouble, stressing that urgent action is required by the leadership to save all and sundry.

“This is the worst instability we are facing. Infact, this is worse than the civil war. We cannot pretend that we are capable of confronting the situation in our hand”, the Senator remarked.

“The nation is on fire, the President must rise to the occasion. We cannot keep quiet any longer”, the conqueror of Senator Dino Melaye declared, his voice rising to a feverish pitch.

The former President of the NUJ added, “It has gotten to a point that we cannot sleep with our two eyes closed. Our children are not free.”

Proclaiming that he was still loyal to the President and his party, Adeyemi took his seat, tears streaming down his face.

He was later seen wiping his eyes clean with a handkerchief, his eyes still brimming with tears.

In his own contribution, Senator Ike Ikweremadu representing Enugu on the platform of the PDP noted any government which can no longer protect lives and property have lost legitimacy.
