Nigerian politics, still played at night – Amaechi
The Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi has said that Nigeria’s politics remains largely a “midnight affair”.
The Minister who spoke at a birthday held in honour of Mrs Ibiama George in Abuja told his audience that the dynamics of the game hasn’t changed dramatically.
“Politics is not played in the day”, the two-time Governor of Rivers State remarked, “it is played at night.”
According to him, most of the enduring decisions taken by the political class which shape the direction of party politics are forged under the cover of darkness.
Amaechi extolled the virtue of wives of politicians, saying there understanding and tolerance of the activities of their spouses who meet even at odd hours has helped them succeed.
He said a good wife supports her husband in every way, and took time to acknowledge the supportive role of Mrs George who turned 40 in the progressive growth of her husband.
“You have supported your husband”, the Minister noted, declaring that his prayer is for God to lift Dr Dawari George higher so he would always be a blessing to his wife.
In her speech, Dame Judith Amaechi congratulated the celebrator and prayed good health and progress upon the family of Dr George.
Speaking on the occasion of her own birthday, Mrs George thanked everyone who was in attendance.
She recalled that her marriage to Dawari had the backing of the Amaechis, saying that as a family, they would always be grateful to them.
Among those who graced the occasion were the wife of the Minister of Transportation, Dame Judith Amaechi, former Director General of NIMASA, Hon. Dakuku Peterside, Hon. Warman Ogoriba, Hon Ogbonna Nwuke, Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree and the leader of the Port Harcourt Polo Club, Dr Chukwudi Dimkpa.
