Chairman of the Etche Local Government Council, Dr Obinna Anyanwu, has vowed not to abandon any project conceived under his tenure.

Anyanwu gave the undertaking at the Akpoku – Umuoye (Ward 16) during the flag off of a health centre project at the weekend.

Addressing the people, the Council Chairman noted that the plight of expectant mothers and their children necessitated the decision to embark on the project.

He recalled that he promised the people of Akpoku, he would rebuild the health centre which collapsed in 1994 if they voted for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Dr Obinna Anyanwu

Anyanwu said the flag off of the project was his way of saying thank you to a people who have been active supporters of the PDP.

He said the PDP has remained faithful in its resolve to touch the lives of many in the State, saying the Wike administration has completed a major  access road which now runs through Oduofor to Akpoku -Umuoye.

In their address, the Akpoku community thanked the Obinna Anyanwu administration for embarking on the health centre project.

They said Anyanwu has decided to undertake the construction of a project that is close to their heart and appealed to him to sink a borehole and construct a wall around the health facility.

Flagging off the project, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, a former federal lawmaker who was the Special Guest of Honour said he was pleased that the council has shown strong presence in 15 out 19 wards.

He said the health centre when completed would reduce the mortality and morbidity rate among women and children and ensure that expectant mothers and children have access to health care.

Chief Ogbonna Nwuke

Nwuke lauded the State Governor for showing interest in Etche’s development and said the council chairman who is a product of the Wike team has learnt the art of exhibiting effective leadership from his boss.

The former lawmaker thanked the Council Chairman for making him part of unfolding history.

The foundation stone for the health centre which collapsed in 1994 was laid in 1954 by late Chief J.H.E Nwuke, a parliamentarian and cabinet Minister in the Old Eastern Region who is the father of Chief Ogbonna Nwuke.

Nwuke, said he was elated to be in the community at an auspicious moment and urged the Council Chairman not to relent in his effort to move Etche forward.
