Wike, moving round Nigeria in search of a winning combination.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State Monday night arrived Minna, the Niger State capital, in continuation of his effort to reach out to national leaders, elders and stakeholders a across Nigeria.

Wike who has declared his ambition to lead the country is engaging in nationwide consultations.

On arrival, the Governor and members of his team headed to the residence of a prominent Nigerian leader and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

Sources say members of the delegation which included Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and former Benue State State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, had crucial discussions with the former Head of State.

Details of what transpired behind closed doors are however not yet known.

But sources say issues pertaining to the state of the nation were broadly discussed.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, supports Wike.

The Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, who spoke on behalf of the delegation said they were in Minna to consult with the former military Head of State.

“I have come with my colleagues, the Governors of Enugu, Oyo, Rivers and some members of the National Assembly to consult with the former Head of State and discuss national issues and the problems affecting our country,” the Abia State Governor remarked.

The Abia Governor further revealed, “We commended him for his support for the unity of this country.”

Speaking on the outcome of the deliberations, Ikpeazu who assured prying journalists, “We will take it from there” disclosed that “the discussions went very well.”

Wike’s enormous penetration of parts of Nigeria is taking quite a number of Nigerians by surprise.

The outspoken Governor who flagged off his ambition in Markudi was warmly received in Lagos.

His latest visit to a North Central state is coming in the wake of fears being expressed in some northern circles that there are too many pro-Wike campaigners who are active in building momentum for his presidential bid in the region.

A group which goes by the name, “Concerned Northern Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alliance” is warning the Northern electorate not to ditch the aspiration of leaders from the area who are currently eyeing the presidency.

Northern leaders have not been able to reach a broad consensus on who among them would be adopted as a, common candidate.

The group said it has traced the growing support Governor Nyesom Wike is enjoying to Senator Nazif Gamawa

It accused Gamawa, former deputy national chairman of PDP, of floating different groups in the North which are canvassing support for Wike in return for an opportunity to be named as a running mate.

A statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Salaman Maianguwa, alleged that Gamawa’s decision to set up a support group for Wike is undermining Northern aspirations.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal… Is he swimming against the tide?

“We, in the Northern PDP Concerned Group, believe that the project of Wike championed by Gamawa is a serious anti-North project”, the statement added.

The tone of the statement released by the Northern group, observers think, might be a reflection of how serious Wike’s bid for the presidency has become.

Wike who presided over the swearing in of the President of the Customary Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt before jetting out Monday night is taking his message of renewed vision for Nigeria everywhere.

“This is indeed proof that Wike will not abandon his role as the Governor of Rivers State”, an analyst said in Port Harcourt on Monday.

“It is good that he is keeping an eye on matters of state interest even as he navigates the political terrain in search of support”, the analyst pointed out.

Thus far, Wike appears to be enjoying a fine run as he criss crosses the entire country.

Members of the PDP in Lagos led by Chief Bode George have thrown their weight behind him.

The presence of State Governors on his team can only mean Wike has drawn widespread support from his colleagues.
