Wike to Buhari: Name Govs who swallow LGA funds

Governor Nyesom Wike has challenged President Mohammadu Buhari to name goveqrnors who are flagrantly strangulating the growth of local government councils in the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari urged to name erring governors who feast on funds belonging to local government councils. The President is quoted as saying that state Governors were dipping their fingers into funds meant for local government councils.
The Port Harcourt Telegraph reports that such fund diversion at the Joint Allocation Committee meeting level where money is shared between states and existing local government councils is well known.
Wike who was however reacting to the comment credited to the President said it was unfair for the Presidency which has access to information to issue such a blanket statement.
The Rivers Governor said it is evident that President Buhari knows state governors who are in the habit of diverting funds meant for councils.
He urged the nation’s number one citizen to name heads of state governments who are poaching funds meant for third tier administrations in the country.
Governor Wike who has been commissioning projects in the last three weeks insisted that he is not one of such state governors.
Instead of making such a sweeping statement, Wike noted, the president who obviously has records of what is playing out should name state governors who are interfering with funds accruing to local government councils.
Governor Nyesom Wike insists he has nothing to do with local government council funds. At Rumuodogo a few days ago, Governor Eike announced that the latest phase of project commissioning which took off in November would end on the 3rd of December.
But he said that the flag off of new projects, relevant to the needs of the people of the State, would continue from next week.
Many who have been claiming that the Rivers State Governor is concentrating development projects in Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor Local Government Areas alone have suddenly lost their voices.
Trends emerging from Rivers State show that the Rivers Government has all along spread development projects to the grassroot areas.
These include the construction of vital rural roads that are creating massive access to community with rich agricultural lands.
