About five months ago, Governor Nyesom Wike visited Elele where he had received a declaration of support on the road to Brick House in 2015.
Wike recalled how the people rallied behind him when it mattered most while flagging off the construction of internal roads that would serve the community, and promised to be back before he leaves office to commission them.
On Tuesday, precisely five and months after, the governor returned to Elele reputed as the settlement that the father of the Ikwerre nation is believed to have set foot many years ago to perform the commissioning of the project.
Addressing the people of Elele, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike who has been going round inaugurating projects said the prompt delivery of roads in the community is proof of a promise fulfilled.
Acknowledging that the project was flagged-off five and half months ago, Wike said that barely six days to the end of his tenure, he is in Elele community to fulfill his pledge.
The Governor noted that he was honoured to witness the overwhelming confidence reposed on him and the administration that he has led in the past eight years by Rivers people.
According to him, he has remained true to his word, saying that his commitment to the fulfilment of promises that he made to the people has differentiated from other politicians.
As he put it, any project that he had promised and embarked on during his tenure, has been delivered.
Governor Wike thanked the Elele community and the people of Ikwerre Local Government Area for their electoral support.
He said that their support contributed immensely to the impressive victory of all the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Dr. George-Kelly Dakorinama Alabo who also spoke said 12 separate roads which constitute the Internal Roads in Elele were reconstructed.
Alabo whose ministry supervised the project explained that the roads which measure nine kilometres were delivered within a completion period of five and half months.
The Port Harcourt Telegraph reports that there has been jubilation at Elele following the delivery of the internal roads which are easing the flow of traffic.
Natives who spoke to this publication said they had no regrets whatsoever for backing Governor Wike who sought their blessing when he first contested for the governorship seat in 2015.
Chief Mike Elechi, Chairman of the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce said in an exclusive interview with the Telegraph that the internal roads completed by Governor Wike would enhance economic activities in Elele and encourage the speedy evacuation of agricultural produce.
Elechi who is also a member of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission noted that when the governor made the pledge five months ago that he would complete the internal roads, it looked like an uphill task given the space of time.
But he observed that the completion of the construction work on all the roads have proved that Governor Wike meant well for the people of the State.
He added that the Elele people see it as a promise fulfilled and thanked the Governor for his love for Rivers people and his avowed commitment to the development of the State.
Other Elele people who spoke to this medium stressed they were not worried about the rains since most roads in the community were without potholes.
