G5 Back On Centrestage

Nyesom Wike, Atiku Abubakar, their battle which resulted in Tinubu’s victory in 2023 may be re-ignited in 2027.

Drivers of the G5, a group of former and serving PDP Governors have vowed to place their weight behind the presidential bid of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom who spoke in Port Harcourt on Sunday at a luncheon hosted by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory said the G5 which denied  the PDP’s presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar of victory in 2023 would extend their support to Tinubu when the time comes.

The position of the G5 is coming in the wake of Atiku’s plan to truncate what many across regional and ethnic lines see as the turn of the South in 2027.

The spokesman of the former vice president, Daniel Bwala dropped the hint about the intention of his boss to contest the next election in the country.

Atiku has neither denied or confirmed the claim made by Bwala. His silence, many reckon, suggests that the ex-custom officer from a settlement close to the Cameroonian border will again attempt to swim against the tide.

It would be the seventh time that Atiku will vie for the Presidency. Six times, former Vice president Atiku has contested; six times he has failed.

Not much has been heard about the G5 especially after members of the group met President Tinubu in the early days of his administration.

On Sunday, the G5 came together in Port Harcourt to deliver a message to the PDP and the campaign organization of the Turaki Adamawa.

Despite garnering sufficient votes in no less than 12 states, Atiku hunted by precedence in terms of zoning could not finish in front.

It is possible that ego instead of pragmatic thinking; arrogance instead of a sense of understanding; a feeling of superiority rather than a constructive appreciation of equity and fairness; might be responsible for Atiku’s refusal to walk another path.

At least 14 different political groups from across the country that are affiliated to the Rivers strongman assembled in the Rivers capital, Port Harcourt for the luncheon which held at the Minister’s country home.

Wike surrounded by friends and political associates.

Their leaders eventually pledged total support for Wike and the nation’s sitting president.
