Fubara: We’ll “Carry Out Our Responsibility” Despite The “Love Letter”

Says Rivers a centre of excellence is open for business

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has vowed that the Rivers State Government would continue to despatch its responsibilities despite distractions that are coming from some quarters.

The governor renewed his pledge to serve the State and the people at the just concluded polo tournament in Port Harcourt city.

Expressing confidence in the security architecture, the Governor said that the absence of security breeches throughout the polo event proved that government is doing everything to keep the people and the State safe.

The Governor who spoke against the backdrop of the impeachment targeted at his deputy and himself said Rivers State is open to all who want to invest and do business, organize international events or simply engage in having leisure and relaxation.

“Notwithstanding these distractions”, Fubara told his audience, “we must move on. We must continue to carry out our responsibilities as a government and support everyone who genuinely means well for Rivers State,”

Obviously satisfied, the governor said the atmosphere symbolizes the “peace” and “security” that Rivers offers as one of Nigeria’s most strategic states

He referred to the impeachment notice as a love letter, saying he is still in charge as governor.

As he put it, “I thought 2026 would be the finest but they just landed me a love letter.”

Fubara also spoke of his relationship with a prominent architect, late Roland Cookey-Gam and disclosed he was driven by what he described as an obligation to honour the memory of his late brother.

He acknowledged the wife and son of late brother who were in attendance, and thel strategic encouragement from the leadership of the Port Harcourt Polo Club.

Fubara affirmed the resolve of the state government to provide support to the Port Harcourt Polo Club, saying he would reposition the club and place polo more prominently on the global sporting and tourism map.

Earlier in his remarks, the President of the Port Harcourt Polo Club, Mr. Henry Prince Agbodjan, commended Governor Fubara for gracing the grand finale of the tournament, noting that the seamless and incident-free conduct of the event further attests to the security of Rivers State.

Agbodjan disclosed that the tournament coincided with the 20th remembrance of Architect Roland Cookey-Gam, who lost his life in a plane crash, adding that this year’s event served both sporting and commemorative purposes.
