Resident Doctors Call Off Strike: 14-Day Ultimatum Issued to Federal Government
By PHC Telegraph

In a major relief for the healthcare sector, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its nationwide “total and comprehensive” strike.
The decision follows a demonstration of goodwill after the government showed a “renewed willingness” to address their grievances.
The suspension is conditional. NARD has issued a two-week ultimatum expiring on April 21, 2026.
The union is demanding the immediate reversal of the decision to halt the revised Professional Allowance Table, along with the payment of all outstanding salary and promotion arrears.
Hospitals are expected to resume normal operations immediately, though the threat of a resumed strike looms if the April 21 deadline is not met.
Meanwhile, reports reveal that members of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, resumed work at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday
ARD UCH President Dr Uthman Adedeji on Tuesday disclosed in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan that its members would resume duty promptly.
NAN reports that NARD had earlier directed its members nationwide to embark on an indefinite strike over the federal government’s failure to address its demands.
Adedeji said the strike was suspended after an Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting, during which NARD directed members nationwide, including those at UCH, to resume duties at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
