The leadership of the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has commended Governor Nyesom Wike for his spirited effort to keep Rivers State away from the Coronavirus.
The commendation is coming as the Rivers State Government expressed optimism that the State may be Coronavirus free as a result of measures put in place to curb its spread.
Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director General of the NCDC who led a fact finding mission to the State in continuation efforts to flush out the dreaded virus said he was impressed by the resolve of the State Government to stave off the virus.
Ihekweazu explained, “Whether it is is in detection, prevention and treatment, our role as NCDC is to make sure that our technical colleagues , are able to respond at all levels and are supported in any way with the expertise they need.
He said he was particularly happy with the efforts being made by the Rivers State Governor to win the war against COVID 19.
“I want to thank you @GovWike for your firm, strong, committed and personally-led response to COVID-19 in Rivers State.”
Governor Wike who put out this on his official Twitter handle quoted the Director General as saying, “The purpose of this visit is to engage with the team and understand their challenges and continue driving that close coordination.
“The unique nature of this virus is that it is a global pandemic. None of us can do this on our own. No country can do this on its own.”
The Rivers State Government has revealed that the two persons earlier diagnosed positive with the Coronavirus have both turned negative after tests were conducted.
