A chieftain of the APC in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe, has asked the Nigerian people to give the reworked Electoral Act signed by President Muhammadu Buhari a chance to operate.
Abe spoke exclusively to the Port Harcourt Telegraph on the Senate’s rejection of the President’s request for an amendment to section 84(12) of the act.
He said that what transpired on the floor of the red chamber culminating in the rejection of the President’s request is something that is normal in a democracy.
“These are normal democratic processes and truth of the matter is that every legislation involves some measure of compromises between the different interest groups that make our democracy work”, Abe told this publication.
The Senator who hails from the Ogoni speaking area in the Rivers South East acknowledged that legislations are not necessarily perfect products.
The Telegraph would bring its readers, a full text of the complete interview.
