Wike: We Can’t Be Teleguided By Anyone
By PHC Telegraph

The out gone Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Wike has reacted to criticisms from PDP quarters over his open support for the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President and Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker of the House of Reps.
Wike said he could not allow himself to be teleguided by anti-democratic and anti-nationalistic forces opposed to the Tinubu administration to make awkward decisions on matters of great national interest.
“We cannot be intimidated or teleguided by people who don’t mean well for this country”, Wike said on Channels Television, “by people who believe that Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) should not be president or Asiwaju being president has affected them one way or the other.”
Stressing that “Nothing will make me to accept that”, Wike explained that he was never invited to any meeting of the PDP where decisions to vote one way or the other were taken.
The former governor emphasized that since the party did not consider it necessary to invite him, he acted in a manner that he had reason to believe was in the best interest of the nation.
Wike noted that he and his allies within and outside the PDP cannot be intimidated by anyone.
“I’m talking about Nigeria” Wike stated, “I’m not talking about party. The party (PDP) never called anybody to say don’t vote here, this is where we are going to vote.
“The party never called me. I challenge any of them to say look, you called a meeting and this is the decision you took.”
“If you did, you called those you wanted to call but you didn’t call me”, Wike added, saying “you believe we are no longer governors and we have no role to play.”

In the heat of the disagreements within the PDP, spokesmen for the Atiku campaign organization had inferred repeatedly that Wike would be history after he hands over as governor of Rivers State.
Given what is playing out at the national level, the plan by some persons in the PDP to ignore the man who helped to rebuild the party when it was at its lowest ebb might be proving counter productive.
Hon. Kingsley Chindah, an astute lawmaker representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency is among new officers of the House of Reps elected early in the week.
He was elected the Minority Leader of the House by his colleagues.
A former member of the House of Reps, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke who served as spokesman of the PDP in Rivers State took to Twitter to say, “Ex-governor Nyesom Wike continues to daze me. He is enjoying strong national visibility despite leaving office.
“Wike is busy silencing naysayers who promised Nigerians he would be thrown into oblivion after he hands over power.”
Insiders reveal that the PDP is gradually losing steam as a result of its inability to heal existing wounds.
There are people in the party, a source revealed to the Telegraph, who think they own the party.

“They are responsible for the polarization of the party”, the source hinted, “and the failure of the party machine to take real steps towards assuaging the pains of a segment of the party which actually include Governor Wike and members of the G5.
“As you can see, those who even without winning election during the electioneering period set out to retire others are the ones whose actions may eventually retire the PDP.”
A high ranking member of the PDP in Imo State who did not want his name in print remarked in an interview with the Port Harcourt Telegraph, “There is still a chance to get all national leaders of the PDP to the roundtable, under one roof, to discuss the future of the party. I don’t think it is too late.
“I am one of those who miss Wike. As things are, there is no cohesion within our ranks, no clear direction, no strong leadership that is being offered by the party at the moment, and no political will on the part of those persons whose hijack of the system is presently ruining our party.”
