The All Progres-sives Congress, APC, is set to confer a merit award on the Chair-man of its Caretaker Committee in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha.
Okocha, a one-time Chief of Staff to a former Rivers Governor and solid supporter of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu stuck out his neck when the ousted leadership structure in Rivers State relentlessly worked against the election of the nation’s President.
He however did not end the struggle after Tinubu surprisingly won Rivers State.
Okocha who was abreast of events during the election – the effort that went into it – and how the President snatched Rivers State from Atiku Abubakar of the PDP as well as Peter Gregory Obi of LP acknowledged the role of the former Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Wike had indeed turned the tide in favor of Tinubu, and Okocha joined others across the country to urge the APC and the President when the time came to give the ministerial slot for Rivers State to him.
Our sources say the State Representative at the NDDC is likely to receive the party’s merit award, which is a symbol of astute hard work, humility, loyalty and dedication on Thursday.
“Okocha’s gradual rise to the top is like a fairy tale”, a source told the Port Harcourt Telegraph, “he is about to reap where he sowed – in the APC which won the 2023 presidential elections, thanks to men like Wike.”
According to information that is filtering in, the man who recently inherited the onerous task of supervising processes which would lead to the conduct of APC congresses in Rivers State is already in Abuja.
