A move which would ensure that ordinary Nigerians who are resident in the country have access to affordable housing has been set in motion.
To this end, the Federal Government has conceived a bill that would ensure that low income earning Nigerians as well as those who are unemployed have roofs over their heads.
According to Fredrick Nwabufo, Senior Special Assistant to President on Public Engagement, the bill for the establishment of housing scheme will be transmitted by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly.
The presidential aide disclosed on X that the executive bill, titled National Social Housing Fund (NSHF) seeks to ensure all Nigerians, regardless of income level, have access to decent housing.
He also threw light on how the Presidency is going to fund the proposed housing policy.
“Progress has been made to establish a National Social Housing Fund (NSHF) in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda”, Nwabufo noted “to ensure that all Nigerians including low and no income, vulnerable and underprivileged groups have access to decent and dignified accommodation.”
“A memo to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and an Executive Bill to the National Assembly is underway for the creation of a National Social Housing Fund.
“Potential sources of funding include budgetary provision, donations from philanthropic organizations, corporate social responsibility, and voluntary donations from Nigerians.
“President Tinubu is confronting Nigeria’s housing challenge with gravitas and a deliberate plan, understanding the criticality of the situation.
“He is determined to renew the hope of citizens on affordable and functional housing,” Nwabufo further wrote on his X handle.
