Sanwo-Olu, Odu: We’ll Never Forget Wigwe’s Sacrifice

The Lagos State Government has restated that it will never forget the contributions of the late Chief Executive Officer of Assess Holdings PLC, Herbert Wigwe to the economic growth of the State.

Governor Babjide Sanwo-Olu who spoke at an event organised at Eko Hotels to remember the life and times of the late business guru said Wigwe’s presence was indeed larger than life when he lived.

“A year ago, the world as we knew it, changed forever. In an instant, we lost a man whose presence was larger than life,” the governor noted.

Continuing, Sanwo-Olu observed the pain of the passing of  Herbert Wigwe, Wife Chizoba and son Chizi “lingers like an open wound that time has not been able to heal.”

Extolling the late banker at the evening event, the Lagos Governor remarked, “He truly believed in Nigeria, he believed in Africa.

“He, especially believed in our work here in Lagos State. Herbert travelled the world with us, helping my government to mobilise partners and funding.”

In Port Harcourt, the State Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu who represented Governor Siminalayi Fubara at a church programme held at Isiokpo by the family assured that the Rivers State would continue to stand with the Wigwe family.

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi exchanges views with members of the Wigwe family.

Also present at Isiokpo was the former Minister of Transportation and two-time Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Rotimi Amaechi, former Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps, Austin Opara.

Wigwe, his wife and son died in air accident on their way to the Superbowl last year.

In his lifetime Wigwe turned the Assess Bank to one of Nigeria’s leading banking institutions.
