Hopes are rising in Etche due to hints that the unfixed part of the Igwuruta-Chokocho-Igbodo Road which links Rivers State to Okpala in Imo State will be taken care of by the Rivers State Government.

Already, Governor Siminalayi Fubara pained by what he saw when he visited Igbodo which lies at the boundary between Rivers and Imo States promised to construct the dilapidated section leading  to Okpala which was not captured when the Wike administration rebuilt the road.

Speaking in Etche on Tuesday, the Governor said that the remaining stretch which is approximately about three-kilometre long would be completed by his administration.

The Governor’s visit, the Telegraph has learnt, was prompted by growing appeals for the intervention of  the Rivers State Government by the Etche people as well as  commuters who use the road.

Fubara acknowledged that the immediate past administration did a great job when it reconstructed the Etche-Igbodo road, but he said that the deplorable section which was not completed has become a problem for the residents and commuters alike.

“It’s really bad and you can see that. I wonder how these people managed during the rainy season because if it is as bad as this in dry season, then it must be terrible during the rainy season.

“As a government, we will see what we can do immediately to complete this section so that there will be very easy traffic along this route.”

Within Etche circles, expectations are growing by the day. Many have taken to the social media to express renewed while others are lauding Fubara for paying an unscheduled visit to the area.

The Governor was received by some Etche leaders, including party officials of the PDP who are working closely with him, following the sharp political divisions which occurred recently in the State.

The disagreement which is being settled as a result of the intervention of President Bola Tinubu had pitched Governor Fubara against his boss and political godfather, Barrister Nyesom Wike who is the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
