● Tinubu orders probe, sends the CBN Governor on suspension as DSS moves in

By PHC Telegraph

President Bola Tinubu (middle) orders a probe into the activities of the CBN and directs its Governor, Godwin Emefiele to proceed on suspension.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an investigation into the operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, under the watch of Governor Godwin Emefiele.

The President who gave the order in Abuja announced the immediate suspension of the Governor of the apex bank.

He directed the suspended Governor to handover to the Deputy Governor in charge of Operations, Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi.

Tinubu said the Shonubi would remain the Acting Governor of the CBN pending the conclusion of the probe and efforts to reposition the banker’s bank.

President Muhammadu Buhari worked with Emefiele during his tenure.

In the meantime, there are very strong indications that Godwin Emefiele has been arrested by men of the Directorate of State Security, DSS.

The DSS has been on the trail of the deposed Governor of the CBN for a while now as a result of several allegations levied against him.

Recall that Emefiele had kept the secret police at bay through court orders, which prevented his arrest.

Notwithstanding, knowledgeable sources within the CBN  and security agencies have always affirmed Emefiele would be expected at the appropriate time to explain his role in certain matters of state interest.

Most Nigerians are not shocked in the least over the decision by the administration of President Bola Tinubu to overhaul the CBN.

Insiders reveal that Emefiele and his colleagues at the CBN were at loggerheads over the implementation of banking policies that some insist affected economic growth and injured the operations of commercial banks.

Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate, takes over as Acting Governor of the CBN.

Prior to the swearing in ceremony of the new president, the CBN boss had asked for permission from the Buhari administration to travel out of the country.

Apparently, his request to leave the country was not granted. Now, the once powerful man is cooling off in the hands of security agents.

He would be required to help investigators who are to go through sensitive papers with answers to critical questions concerning how the apex bank was run during his tenure.
