APC Integrity Group Disowns Former Petroleum Minister

Signs that an internal revolt which is brewing within the All Progressives Congress, APC,  may wreck its electoral chances in November are gradually emerging.

Two factions, each competing for both space and political relevance have appeared on the scene.

While one of the factions is pro-Sylva, the other faction whose members are slugging it out in court are pro-David Lyon.

Already, a body known as the Integrity Group in the APC is vowing publicly that it will have absolutely nothing to do with the party’s candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva.

Dr Theodore Allison, Spokesman of the Integrity Group urged President Bola Tinubu on Arise  Television on Monday to intervene in the affairs of the APC in Bayelsa State.

He also appealed to Tinubu to take cognisance of the objections that are being raised by party members in Bayelsa who are openly opposed to the emergence of Sylva as the flagbearer.

The spokesman disclosed that a petition has been despatched to the President intimating him about the huge risk involved in using Sylva as the APC candidate.

Allison who also explained how David Lyon beat Senator Douye Diri in the field before the Supreme Court removed him, revealed that a strong coalition of powerful forces in Bayelsa State came together to effect a change.

But he said the emergence of Sylva as the candidate would jeopardise the alliance and endanger the fortunes of the party in the forthcoming elections.

Accusing Sylva on Arise Television of totally disregarding his own pledge, never to aspire again as a governorship candidate in the State, Allison described Sylva as bad news.

He said Sylva’s action amounted to a dramatic u-turn as well as a betrayal of trust, saying most party members do not believe Sylva is the best man to fly the flag.

The spokesperson for the Integrity Group dismissed claims that its action in the public space amounts to engaging in anti-party activity, saying the right of dissent is enshrined in the party’s constitution.
