Fubara to Julius Berger: Do Not Disappoint Us

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged Julius Berger Nigeria PLC  to ensure that it delivers the Port Harcourt Ring Road project within the three-year period stipulated in the contract agreement signed last week.

Fubara who was speaking at the official flag off of the project in Port Harcourt on Monday affirmed that the  company was awarded the job after due process carried out by the State because  of its quality delivery of projects.

The Rivers State Governor expressed delight at the commencement of the road project, saying its delivery would have a lot of merit.

Apart from the evolution of a new city, Fubara remarked that the ring road project would among other things, enhance the connectivity of the people, communities and local government areas.

Also speaking, the immediate past governor of the State,  Nyesom Wike thanked the Governor for taking steps to build the ring road.

He said there cannot be two governors in a State and expressed gratitude to  Fubara for allowing him to flag off the ring road project.

Describing himself as a retiree, Wike said Fubara has demonstrated a strong will in going ahead with the construction of a key project that other administrations stayed away from.

He was particularly impressed that he has paid 77% of the project cost in order to ensure it is completed within time.

When the project is finished, Wike said it would be hard for those he referred to as perennial gubernatorial aspirants to challenge Fubara in future.

Wike urged Fubara to focus on his God-given assignment and ignore those who would want to lure him to Abuja to spend Rivers money on other pursuits.

He also advised the Governor to spend more time in the field monitoring the extent of work at different project sites.

Last Wednesday, the State Government entered into a contract agreement with Julius Berger Nigeria PLC  and speedily released 77% of the contract sum to enable the company get down to work.

From all indications, Governor Fubara is poised to make history for his courage in embarking on the project.

It is the largest single road project to be constructed by any State Government in Nigeria.
