Biden Lauds Tinubu’s ‘Strong Leadership’ Of ECOWAS

President Bola Tinubu rubs minds with President Joe Biden of the United States in New Delhi, India, on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
President Joe Biden of the United States says Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu is offering strong leadership to ECOWAS.
The American President who met his Nigerian counterpart on the sidelines of the G20 summit in India on Sunday said that the commitment of the Nigerian President in the defense of democracy in coup-torn Niger Republic and the West African sub-region is laudable.
The White House said in a statement that Biden “welcomed the Tinubu Administration’s steps to reform Nigeria’s economy”
It also “thanked President Tinubu for his strong leadership as the chair of the Economic Community of West African States.”
The White House observed that Tinubu’s effort “to defend and preserve democracy and the rule of law in Niger and the broader region” is praiseworthy.
“Nigeria’s invitation to the G20 Summit is a recognition of Nigeria’s important global role as Africa’s largest democracy and economy”, the statement added.
Observers say that the statemrnt by the White House reflects Washington’s desire to maintain close ties with Abuja.
Since the arrival of President Tinubu on the scene, the US and its allies have stepped up efforts to cultivate excellent relations with Nigeria.
