Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate says he has no hand in the decision of the Judiciary to sack Senator Elisha Abbo

Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Nigerian Senate, has denied any involvement in the decision of the Court of Appeal to sack Senator Elisha Abbo.

Until his sack by the Appellate Court, the Senator who has asked to withdraw represented Adamawa North Senatorial District on the floor of the Upper House.

Abbo who addressed the press in Abuja shortly after he lost out in the power game claimed that his  refusal to back Akpabio in his quest to lead the Senate has led to a-go-home-order issued to him by the Court of Appeal.

But the President of the Senate swiftly reacted, saying the dismissed Senator had rather chosen to blame him for nothing.

Speaking through his spokesman, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio said it was very unfortunate that Abbo has resorted to name calling in order to hide his frustration over a court process that has turned awry

“It is only a diseased and uninformed mind”, Akpabio noted, “that will not believe that the outcome of any court proceeding is a function of the evaluation of facts and evidence within the province of the rule of law. ”

He noted, “Democracy is founded in the rule of law, so for anybody to accuse one of the strong agents of democracy and governance in the mold of Senator Godswill Akpabio, such an individual must be a monument of self-pity. ”

“His swansong”, Eyiboh hinted is “a discordant escape from reality”, adding that the Senate President is not in the habit of harbouring any ill will against anyone.

Abbo said on Monday in Abuja that Akpabio was planning to weed out more Senators that, are opposed to him.

He alleged Senator Orji Uzor Kalu representing Abia south and three others whose names he did not drop have their Heads on Akpabio’s chopping slab.

Senator Elisha Abbo (APC, Adamawa North) kicked out by the Court of Appeal.

Describing what has happened to him as a coup against democracy, Abbo remarked, “I heard it from a reliable source which I won’t call the name now that five senators will be removed from the senate. Those who did not stand with my brother, my elder brother, and my good colleague, distinguished Senate President Akpabio.”

“Those who did not vote for him, five of us are going and I am number one. Orji Uzor Kalu will go. They have pencilled five of us.

Senator Orji Uzo Kalu. Senator Elisha Abbo alleges he is among four Senators who did not support Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senate President, who are to be removed from the Senate.

“They told me that I am going because we did not support the emergence of my brother Akpabio in emerging as president of the senate. This is not democracy.

“We have hope in the court, let us build the country, the international community is watching us.

“You cannot withdraw a ground and the court of appeal restore a ground without the lawyer asking for that ground to be restored and voiding somebody’s election.

Recall that Abbo supported Abdulaziz Yari, senator representing Zamfara west, for the office of senate president.

Kalu on the other hand hoped to satisfy his lone ambition to preside over the Nigerian Senate, but his dream to become the nation’s number three citizen failed.

Meanwhile, a pro-northern group has vowed that Senator Kalu will remain in the Senate.
